Wise Teacher |
WiseTeacher is a software system that can become the base of the education process in your school. It will automate many aspects of the educational process, starting from the creation of a student list up to conducting classes and taking exams and quizzes.
WiseTeacher allows easy adaptation and import of the existing educational systems (textbooks, tests, encyclopedias, etc.). The system is designed and developed strictly for the educational purposes. Its role is to help automate the day-to-day educational process, starting from preparation and conduction of the classes, tests and exams and up to the administrative functions like tracking student attendance and the extend of learning.
WiseTeacher includes the educational programs along with general purpose programs (word processing, graphics processing, Internet browser, etc.).
Frequently Asked Questions
How many computers are needed for the system to operate?
WiseTeacher can work on a standalone computer as well as in a Local Area Network (LAN). The computers in the school are connected through the LAN. The teacher’s computer is the controlling computer in this virtual classroom. The teacher can make all students see the application on his/her computer, or make a certain application run on the computers of all or some students. Also, the teacher can make the system broadcast the materials of the class to all computers.
How many copies of WiseTeacher shall we buy if we have several computer labs?
Only one, if all the computers in the school are connected through a LAN. WiseTeacher is a network-based multi-session system. It can serve several classes at a time in the same LAN.
What does the interface of WiseTeacher look like?
The interface of WiseTeacher is entirely original. It was designed and developed by designers, psychologists, ergonomics specialists and teachers.
What does a student see when he/she turns on a computer with WiseTeacher on it?
He sees the Student Desktop from which he/she can run programs and open files. The Student Desktop is customizable, so each student can organize it according to his/her taste. In addition the student can organize each folder differently, for instance, he/she can set different views for the folders and for different subjects.
Can the teacher view and control what each student does on his/her computer?
Yes. The teacher can remotely run those applications that he/she thinks are needed on each students’ computers. The teacher may actually prevent student(s) from running any other application(s) by limiting the student(s)’s rights.
Does each student have to use the same computer?
No. The system recognizes each student by his/her login. Once logged in, the student will see his/her own Student Desktop.
Can the students “hack” the system?
No, unless they are given administrator rights.
Under which operating systems will WiseTeacher run?
WiseTeacher runs under MS Windows 2000 or XP, however, as it was mentioned above it has its own interface and does not require any special knowledge of the operating system.
Where are all the user related material stored?
In the independent file system of WiseTeacher. For security and reliability reasons, WiseTeacher has its own file system, which is separate from the Windows file system.
Is it possible to archive the WiseTeacher files?
Yes. The internal file system allows easy archiving. The archived files can be stored on removable media (floppy disks, CDs, etc.).
We have been using another computerized educational system. Can we continue using it with WiseTeacher?
Yes. Any program that works under Windows 2000 or XP will work under WiseTeacher too. Moreover, WiseTeacher will allow the teacher to start and stop those programs on the student’s computer.
Our school has an original teaching methodology. Is it possible to implement it in WiseTeacher?
WiseTeacher allows the teacher to create his own curriculum online. The prepared classes can be easily edited and moved to other copies of WiseTeacher using removable media or email. Another feature of WiseTeacher is the ability to track the success of a new methodology by assessing how successful the students were in using it. Also, the system allows the exchange of educational material (classes, tests, exams) between teachers.

Built-in intelligence. WiseTeacher’s Whiteboard is able to learn and store in its memory, definitions of different objects. Once an object is learned the user just tells the Whiteboard to draw it. The learning is done in an empirical way. For instance, the user can define house as “a rectangle body and a triangular roof on top of it”.

Statistics:
The system keeps track of the time spent by each student on the system, his/her actions, lessons taken, results of all the quizzes and tests and many other relevant pieces of information.
The teacher or the School Administrator can request different reports on all kinds of statistics.
Ability to Record and Playback any class
Application/Desktop Sharing. The teacher can force an application to run on a student’s desktop. He/she may force students to see what is displayed on his computer or on another student’s computer.
Curriculum Constructor
A powerful, yet easy to use application. It allows the online development of classes by the teacher. Classes can incorporate many types of media: pictures, text, video, voice, etc.
Allows construction of the tests and quizzes.
The material developed can be stored on any media or sent by email.
